Can Obama win again in 2012?

A current CNN poll suggests that if the election were held today, Obama would beat a challenge from Sarah Palin, but would face stiff competition from former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.

My questions is what must Obama do in the next two years to secure a second term -- Compromise with GOP on taxes and cuts? Hardline on social issues? Make good on his 2008 promises to the LGBT community? Address immigration reform head-on?

I'll tell you what I think later. For the moment, you tell me what Mr. Obama should to do lock in a second term.

  1. First, he has to show over the next year that he can forge compromise with the Republican controlled Senate. If he moves more to the middle and addresses bipartisan concerns such as the economy and job creation, he might just re-seat himself in the Oval Office. But only if he, secondly, drops Biden from the ticket and names Hillary Clinton as his VP running mate. His Democratic opposition in 2008 will become his greatest lever to re-election if he can make the difficult decision to drop Biden. She has, by most accounts, done an outstanding job as Secretary of State. And face it, she is the only person in politics whose d**k is bigger than Obama's. This will also set her up for a run in 2016. The clock is ticking, though. He must start making moves now to secure re-election in 2012.

  2. Marc,

I think you're right that Hillary would be a stronger VP candidate than Biden. Don't get me wrong, I think Biden's a hell of a guy. But he's not very exciting, and is gaffe-prone. Hillary's a true steel magnolia or, as you put it, is the only person in politics whose d**k is bigger than Obama's. LOL (Loved that.)

  4. Why would anyone want him to get re-elected? I would say he has been a big dissappointment, but then I never really had any faith in his intentions to Change anything in the first place.
Promising people things will get better without sacrafice and hard work was just plain untruthful. When He speaks I feel like I am in church listening to a Preacher and not the President of the USA. He is just one of those; Tell them what they want to hear kinda guys. We need a leader not someone who tells us what we want to hear to manipulate us.

  5. Personally I believe he needs to get better at taking bragging rights about what has been successful. He has done more than most two term presidents but nobody is really aware of those accomplishments. Secondly, if he doesn't want to lose the LGBTQ vote then he absolutely needs to follow through on his, thus far, empty campaign promises. He says he wants equality but consistently blocks it. If DADT is in place through 2011 then he will lose most, if not all, of the LGBTQ vote. Unless the Republicans run someone truly and horrifyingly antigay he may already have. He may have a big dicks but he has no balls when it comes to us. Moving more to the center will cost him the election. He is already more conservative, in many ways, than was Nixon or Teddy Roosevelt.

  6. I'm all for compromise.
For too long the "extremes" of both sides have ruled the conversation.
I'd like to see him hold to his ideals of compromise, yet see the Obama of the 08 election be the one calling for compromise. NOT the President we've seen the past 2 years calling for compromise. Obama ran on a VERY liberal platform, so in "compromise" I thought we'd see something in the center emerge. However, the moment he became President, he became a "centrist" calling for compromise (meaning compromise skews to the right) instead of a Liberal calling for compromise (meaning compromise skews to the center).

  7. I know I am in the minority when it comes to my views but Obama has been the worst president since Carter. What we need as a nation is a truly open minded conservative. Social health care is not what we needed and has been proven not to work in all the countries it has been implemented in. Strengthen the borders, stop apologizing for being who we are as a nation in this world, and getting our economy back on track are the goals we need to set to go forward. The reason why we had a lot of good years and mostly peace during the 80s and 90s was because we could show we were strong on all fronts. Obama doesn't do that.
